Navigator

1999

Private Collection. Singapore.

Navigator was made to celebrate my return to the north with a survey exhibition, Tideline, curat ed by the Whangarei Art Museum in 1999.
Hand-worked prunings of pohutukawa and magnolia twigs have been inlaid along the central spine of the vessel to reference migrants who return to their original homeland and sometimes take with them familiar plants as a reminder of the other place.

Dimensions: Length 3500mm x Width 550mm x Depth 400mm.

Materials: Macrocarpa with prunings of pohutukawa and magnolia, acrylic pigment and beeswax.
