Piano Raft

1995

Passage Series: Private collection, Auckland.

Piano Raft alludes to Jane Campion's film, The Piano.

With each cedar piano key tuned to make a different note, the work makes a beautiful percussion sound both while floating and on dry land.

The work combines salvaged piano keys, muka fibre, acrylic paint, beeswax, dammar resin, and black sand that attached to the raft work during video-making at Karekare Beach, on Aucklands west coast.

Dimensions: Length 2400mm x Width variable to 600mm.

Materials: Recycled piano keys, plaited Stockholm tarred rope and black sand.
