Piwakawaka

Piwakawaka, the fantail, has many other dialectal Maori names including Hiwaiwaka, Tirairaka and Tiwakawaka. Widespread throughout Aotearoa, Piwakawaka is one of the forest birds that hold a significant position in Maori mythology.

It has been said that this brave little bird, with its bold behavior and restless side to side movements, have links to the Haka challenge. Postulating and dance-like in its flight.

The fantail series are mounted on a curved fern frond. The works are laser cut, individually formed and hand worked before being electropolished,
